Why do these things always have to happen to me…
Of the 4000 odd new undergraduate students this year, why do I seem to be the only one who doesn’t know what the hell they want to do with their life.
Okay so I’ll back track a little…
I originally applied to university to study English and history…
On a whim I decided to change to English and classics,
Whilst sitting in my English lecture, I was overcome by an overwhelming sense of “I wish I was studying history”.
Like out of the blue…
…and I suddenly realised that this may have been the reason something hasn’t quite felt right since I got here…
Turns out history is full…
I’m going to go cry in a corner somewhere…
Finding the right major in school is tuff. Don’t beat yourself up over it. When you figure out what you want to do you will know.
Then one day, your interests will change again.
I went to school to be a nurse. Now that I’ve been in it for 7 years and am finally completeing my 4 year degree, I’ve realized this isn’t what I want to do and I am now working online and will soon be traveling the world.
Life is full of opportunities and changes. Don’t sweat the small stuff and just roll with the punches.
You will figure it out.
Thanks so much for the confidence boost, I’m sure I’ll find out what I love at some point…least there’s never a dull moment when you don’t know what to do with your life!
Hi! I read your post and I share the same sentiments back when I was a freshman in the university. I initially signed up for Management Engineering but ended up taking Electronics Engineering. For a while I wasn’t sure if this is the right field for me. (Now that I am in my final year, I still have my doubts.) But I took it as an opportunity to learn something new while I am in the university. I hope you do also. But if your heart really screams for history, then maybe you can shift or something.
Seems like a lot of people have this problem then. You have a really positive attitude to the situation though! I hope everything work out okay for you, I haven’t heard anything yet but fingers crossed 🙂
Oh! One more thing :> I also take part in online classes to just satisfy interests. you might want to check this out. https://www.coursera.org/courses?search=history
I’ll check it out, thank you! In all honesty though I don’t think I’d have time to do a lot more outside of class, we get so much homework as English students…
